Entryway Progress – The Floral Wallpaper Mural Is Up!

I got the rest of the floral wallpaper mural installed in the entryway, and I have to say, this is my absolute favorite. I almost…almost…wish that I had found this mural back when I was working on my studio because it would have been perfect for that long wall in my studio. But I’m very happy with this mural being in the entryway of our home.

Here’s how it turned out…

I hate that I had to cut off almost seven feet of the mural in order to make it fit on this wall, though. The whole thing is stunning. But I just don’t have a 20-foot wall anywhere in our house, so this was the next best thing.

Now I need to figure out what to do about the wall sconce shades. Obviously, the current green is too bright. What I really want are brushed gold metal shades, but I can’t find any that are the right size and shape. I might end up having to make some new ones. But for now, I’d rather look at bright green shades than bare LED bulbs.

Perhaps I need smaller, simpler wall sconces altogether. Instead of sconces with three lights, I might need to get sconces with one light. I’ll have to think about that. I’m open to either option — either new shades for these sconces or new single-bulb sconces.

Anyway, I’ll decide that later. I haven’t given up my search for new shades just yet, and I’m not quite ready to give up on a DIY option, either.

I’m also not quite sure about the console table. I thought the one I have might cover up too much of the mural for my taste, but once it was back in place, I really liked how it looked (except for the one drawer that’s missing the trim and needs to be repaired 😀 ). The wall is over 12 feet wide, so I do think it needs something weighty on that wall. I might keep my eye open for something new (either to buy or to build), but for now, I’m pleased with how this one looks.

I actually don’t mind losing the part of the mural that is covered by the console table.

I do want to repaint the front door now, though. The teal door made sense when the entryway wall was the same color. But now that I no longer have the teal entryway wall, the teal front door doesn’t really make sense. I think a white front door would look better so it’s not pulling attention away from the mural.

Now that the mural is up and the console table and sconces are in place, I do think I need something on the wall between the sconces. Unfortunately, whatever I put there is going to cover up those two reddish pink flowers in the middle. But I think it looks incomplete without something on the wall between the sconces.

I think a simple, round, wood-framed mirror would be my preference.

I have all kinds of mirrors on hand, but most of them are all tall rectangles, arched top mirrors, etc. The only one I had that fit this area is the sunburst mirror. I think it’s too busy for this wall, but since it’s the only round-ish mirror I have, I put it there just to get an idea of what a round mirror would look like there. This one is 37 inches in diameter, so you can see that a round mirror that size would cover up both of those center reddish-pink flowers.

I’m disappointed about that, but there was nothing I could do about it. I raised the mural up as high as I could without cutting off those top yellow flowers on the left and the big pink flower on the right. At least I still have that other reddish-pink flower that will show between a round mirror and the sconce on the right.

Anyway, it’s still a work in progress, but at least the mural is up, and I couldn’t be more thrilled with how it looks. I need to get the bird pictures hung on the wall in the living room, and then add a few more finishing touches. Once that’s done, I’ll show you the whole room with its new look.
